Because I'm so petty and cheap, I am one of the last dinosaurs whom does my own taxes by hand and paper, which opens up a lot of possibilities of human error on my part. For 2022, I had forgotten to include info that verified that my wife and I had health insurance. This resulted in a recent FTB letter that rather than getting a $3400ish refund, that I owed $915 due to a $4637 penalty for not having health insurance.
