FAQs
Is Schlage a US company?
Schlage (/ʃleɪɡ/ SHLAYG) is an American lock manufacturer founded in 1920 by Walter Schlage. Schlage was headquartered in San Francisco from its inception until it relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1997.
Why is Schlage so expensive?
Schlage locks tend to be more expensive than Kwikset due to its superior security features, durable materials, tight tolerances, great security pins, and robust deadbolt screws. The Kwikset deadbolt is good quality, but the quality of Schlage housing and door locks justifies the higher cost.
How does Schlage work?
With built-in WiFi, the Schlage Encode lock connects directly to your home’s WiFi network – no adapters or accessories are required. Set up the lock easily with either the Schlage Home app or Key by Amazon App and you’ll be able to access it remotely, putting total control in the palm of your hand.
What is the story behind Schlage?
After leaving his job at Western Electric Company, Schlage opened up his own lock shop in San Francisco. The company was officially incorporated. The Schlage key and lock operation manufactured a locking door handle with a central push button. The team later added a push button to the cylindrical pin tumbler design.
Hopefully, we helped you to get some genuine hours details for Schlage.

Recently, my keypad style lock from 2019 failed. Once I sent a photo of the sticker on the back, no hassle whatsoever. Replacement on its way. Very friendly folks. OTOH, the lock itself, fit and long-term finish durability are very poor. Finish faded and clear coat peeled off. Deadbolt to front free-turning knob link failed. Now, if you are a fan of Lockpick Lawyer and similar, you realize that there is nothing that Schlage or anyone else makes that cannot be picked in less than a minute.
